Missed Delivery

Eventually I logged directly into the GoGun site using the account I had created (rather than the link that they had e-mailed) and that did work. Entering the tracking code on the DHL parcel delivery website it told me that delivery had been made over a month ago! I was really upset because had I known it was arriving I would have waited for it, but usually if they can't deliver they will drop a leaflet in my letter box and I can then collect it from their distribution center the next day. That had not happened.

I contacted them and was told it was sent "economy" which apparently means they don't bother with signatures. That, I thought, highly irresponsible for such a valuable package, but I'm not sure whose negligence it would have been. I was also told that they recorded the GPS position at time of delivery, but they didn't confirm said coordinates.

The delivery service claimed that if it would not fit in my letter box (which it wouldn't have done) then they would have left it by the front door. In the adjacent image, that is to the right of my car, and not visible to opportunists from the road, so it would have been relatively safe, had they done that. I gather that normally they take a picture of the parcel where they leave it (along with the GPS coordinates), but did not do so this time.

IDK what equipment they use to record GPS, but above is a photo from my own cellphone with a time and date as well as GPS stamp of a box on my doorstep. Note however that on my cell phone without access to wifi, GPS reports as low accuracy: The position shown is incorrect and at the wrong address. Assuming they did take GPS and time stamp, then I can see no reason theirs would not also include a picture that would be essential to confirm it was indeed on my property, so I remain sceptical about it having been delivered correctly.

The situation that day

There is a gate across my driveway. It has a padlock to prevent my dogs from pushing it open. On the 5th of September my car was in for repair, so I would not have gone anywhere unless taking the dogs for a walk round the block. If so, I would have left the padlock off. With no dogs there, the delivery could have taken place as they say. I would have been back soon so the chances of an opportunist who watched me go out with the dogs and then saw the parcel delivery, sneaking up the driveway and snatching it in broad day light, seem rather paranoid and unlikely.

On that day Fuego (a nine month old puppy) had learned how to open the front door and had been barking at birds building a nest under my eaves. The time stamp of the picture I took confirms it. I thought it might annoy neighbours, so I brought him in and locked the door.

The padlock would have remained in place and prevented delivery to the front door. The dogs would have alerted me had anyone approached the house or knocked on a window. It is possible I was out in the back garden with them and we didn't hear, but in that case the parcel could not have been left by the front door, while putting it in plain view anywhere else would seem irresponsible. I certainly would have been much happier had they simply posted a leaflet to say they were unable to deliver, thus allowing me to collect it myself the next day.

The Police

The post office stated that the parcel must have been stolen after they delivered it, and even hinted I might be an insurance scammer. They recommended I report it to the police, then they closed the case and won't discuss it any further. Predictably the police recorded it as a theft, saying I might claim it from contents insurance... Alas subsequent to previous burglaries and vandalism, AEG, the main under writer for insurance companies in New Zealand have refused to have me as a client regardless who I apply through and despite the fact I never made a single claim. A friend suggested I take it to the insurance ombudsman, but I simply haven't the time or the energy to fight the entire bureaucratic system all on my own. So much for the allegation I would be doing an insurance scam!

If we do believe the theft story then it looks like the haters, who in the past were stalking and vandalizing my property, raiding my letter box and burgled my home, are still at it today. To me their intentions seemed obvious when they took my security cameras. I discuss how fucking useless the cops were back then on another page. Why won't they address those who have been identified as spreading malicious defamation online, in the community as well as directly to the authorities themselves?

As it stands the result of getting police involved merely taint me as being a problem in their books. It will serve only to make it even harder for me to ever get insurance again.

Sinister Conspiracy Theory

Checking my order details I see it lists delivery method as "standard", not "economy", but IDK what the standard would say about just dumping a valuable parcel without some kind of proof of delivery.

I did also notice that my GoGun account status had been changed: It now says they cannot send things to this address. The same had happened a while back with their site in England. However I pay up front and have done nothing wrong, so what's the story, I wondered? I explained that I wanted to re-order the missing items but they claim they now don't have an export license to New Zealand.

I discovered that both this exact model crossbow and bolts are available over the counter without a license. While the new Siege magazine from GoGun was not (yet) available they do have the one for the Adder crossbow from GoGun, so no impot problems in evidence here.

It may seem far fetched, but could it be that my shipment was intercepted by some kind of cloak and dagger organization... not because it's illegal, but because they don't want me to have one? If so then I suspect it's consequent to false accusations. Why would the post office be lying and don't the authorities owe me an explanation, if not financial compensation?

Well I want to go rabbit hunting once I move out of Christchurch, so maybe I should just buy one over the counter and get the repeater magazine if and when it does become available.
